The Shakeout for The Brian Brawdy Show Will Be Live

I think you call it  a “Shakeout.”  Where you give an idea a “dry run” before you go live with the real, full-on version. Working out the kinks, looking for any bugs, any flaws in your plan? Apparently, I’m not all that bright.

The mobile studio (my Lance Camper and Trailer) is ready for its first test. Yikes! The live-kickoff is finally here for The Brian Brawdy Show. You and I will find out together just how crazy an idea this is.

This afternoon at 5:00 PM EST I will broadcast live from The Rally at the Kentucky Exposition Center via MotoSat Satellite to Livestream.com/brianbrawdy.

Now, if everything goes correctly, you will be able to comment via Twitter and Facebook while the show is in progress. Next week, the live call- in aspect will be added as will the full audio/video/graphics package.

So, before you hop in the shower and get ready for your Saturday night, please join me for the launch with my special guest, Bob Livingston.

I would like to extend a very personal “thank you” to Mr. Keith Olbermann for his terribly instrumental roll in finally pushing me over the edge or as I like to call it, “Kudos to Keith.”

Poll: Americans Fed Up with the Federal Government

Now that the BP oil explosion has allegedly  been contained, seems the next thing the federal government and the gang in Washington may want to cap is the bubbling American angst. You needn’t dive miles beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico to detect the growing distrust many Americans feel towards Congress and the White House. The geyser of government dissatisfaction is only going to get worse.

According to a recent Gallup Poll, Americans view Immigration policy, poor healthcare, natural disaster response, Federal budget deficit, fuel costs, wars, “lack of money,” Afghanistan and even the war in Iraq as lesser problems than “dissatisfaction with government/Congress/politicians; poor leadership; corruption; abuse of power.” Only the economy and unemployment ranked higher than Uncle Sam as “important problems” confronting our country.

Hello. This would be laughable if it didn’t directly effect our lives.

This should rattle our politicians and elected officials more than the 3.6 magnitude earthquake that struck the DC area early this morning.

Reminder: Only 6 days left until the debut of The Brian Brawdy Show. Talk about feeling like an aftershock to the Capitol Hill gang.

Keith Olbermann the Motivation Behind the Brian Brawdy Show

The very first time I contemplated my own news commentary show, the thought came to me immediately following a viewing of the Keith Olbermann Show on MSNBC. Setting the remote down, I shook my head and thought aloud, “You’ve got to be kidding me.” My countdown was on. Starting July, 24th (originally the 22nd) I will be streaming via the web The Brian Brawdy Show.

My goal? To gain as many web viewers as Mr. Olbermann has Nielsen numbers. Plain and simple.

Granted, I don’t have “an Ivy League education” like my competition. I went to West Virginia University, and though I did major in Political Science, I spent more time at the Blue Tick Tavern practicing quarter bounce than attending class, so my stay was short lived. I think I have 6 whole credit hours with a minor in french fries and blu cheese. Clearly, I’m overly qualified for the job at hand and I am so excited to start piling up the numbers, but I will need your help. Your suggestions, critiques and viewership are most certainly welcome.

You might also consider the latest dust-up on The Daily Caller. Seems Tucker Carlson and the DC crew now own KeithOlbermann.com and my main media rival isn’t happy.

This is going to be a blast!

That said, challenging Mr. Olbermann is just a side note.

Centering on “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” in every day ways, the Brian Brawdy Show, full of attitude without apology  focuses on breaking news, commentary, political analysis and techniques for surviving and thriving in a world where freedom and liberty are waning. With roughly 70,000 pages added to the Federal Register every year, enacted laws, rules and codes are encroaching upon our liberties at every level of government and at an alarming rate.

I’ve always focused on wilderness and emergency survival, I just never thought circumstances would necessitate becoming a political survival expert as well. The 21st Century and the current political climate changed all of that.

As the countdown continues, please feel free and encouraged to…

The Rally Hosts Brian Brawdy and the SRMR

I am very excited to be heading to The Rally in Louisville, Kentucky later this month. The 4 day show from July 22-25 is the place to be for all things RV’ing. Modern day nomads from across North America converge for one big blast. The SRMR or Self Reliant Mobile Residence will not only be on display at the main entrance, I will be broadcasting live for the launch of The Brian Brawdy Show.

RV’ing epitomizes my belief in suRVival through self reliance. I have designed the SRMR as a dual purpose vehicle, for both sojourning and surviving should an emergency arrive. I can think of no better platform for the new show than a “Just in Case Place” built to not only travel but broadcast “off road and off the grid.” Using the technologies from Lance, My Solar Backup and Katadyn, (companies it is my pleasure to represent) I am able to survive and thrive comfortably.

If you are heading to The Rally, please stop over and be a part of the Show.

Chicago’s Mayor Daley fights Supreme Court Ruling

Do you remember the song Dueling Banjos? Well, this post is more about dueling quotes than a classic movie soundtrack. On the one hand, our first President of the United States, George Washington. On the other side of the 2nd Amendment debate Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago. Here we go.

President Washington. “Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples’ liberty’s teeth.”

Mayor Daley. “We are a country of laws, not a nation of guns.”

Now, disclaimer time. I am not an attorney, a Constitutional scholar (well not officially) and have never even been to the Supreme Court in Washington, DC. I usually spend most of my time at the Lincoln Memorial. Once you read the engraved words of The Gettysburg Address, they never leave you.

Here is my question. The Supreme Court has, at least for now, decided the law. President Washington believed in the importance of the Second Amendment, Mayor Daley believes we are a “country of laws.” Is it not time to enforce the law of the land and deal quickly and unequivocally with those that brake it while not obstructing in any way, the inalienable rights of law abiding citizens?

I know Mayor Daley. I believe him to be an honorable, dedicated community servant that cares deeply about the gun violence plaguing the City of Chicago. As he moves forward in “complying” with this new decision, he needs to limit the hurdles for those rightfully keeping and bearing arms while substantially upping the hurt for those criminals that forfeited their right.

This is the time. If we are a “country of laws” then the Mayor needs to abide by them and not use some type of legal gymnastics to circumvent the 2nd Amendment.

How To Become a Political Survival Expert

Shortly after my Father took his own life in the mid ’80s, I decided to leave law enforcement and go my own way. Since that day, I spent a great deal of time in “the wilderness” trying, amongst other things, to square my mind with his actions. Along the way, I learned to survive in those wild places out of necessity. The need to find shelter, food and water all the while compelled to navigate in unfamiliar surroundings and to survive whatever Mother Nature would throw my way became a passion of mine. Truth be told, I’m a bit of a gear freak as well. Soon, the term “wilderness survival expert” attached.

Admittedly, there are survival skills that are helpful out in the middle of nowhere; I subsequently came to understand however that those same skills worked in urban areas and scenarios (hurricane Katrina jumps to mind)  as well. Survival, I grew to understand, is a mindset. Wherever you find yourself, the skills to survive are as much mental as they are mechanical, as much of temperament as technology. I came to believe that survival is a part of our inherent Buried Logic.

Jump forward to today. Of late, I’ve a realization that I never saw coming; NEVER. Like most impromptu scenarios, they come at the corners of our eye. I never thought I would have to learn how to survive politics, politicians and their overall power grab. Wilderness survival, yes! Wall Street and Washington D.C., no!

Naive, on my part, you bet!

I realize now that our Constitution and the Government it provides us has been nearly hijacked by politicians, political parties, special interest groups, some media outlets and those lawmakers that never saw a situation they didn’t want to legislate themselves out of or in to. Government, is by its nature is a service organization. Most politicians and political parties today are about sustaining power, not public service.

Thankfully, survival and liberty are closely approximated. Navigating Nature or an encroaching political class, regardless of party affiliation, requires the same skill set. You square your shoulders, survey the situation and take action. Survival is your responsibility.

It’s time. I’m trading my backpack for a briefcase and a laptop. I have decide to turn my efforts into political survival and highlighting the skill sets needed for you and I to survive and thrive while confronted with our fading list of freedoms. To that end, I am putting the final touches on The Brian Brawdy Show, my upcoming book Survivalnomics and continuing the blog at BrianBrawdy.com.

The Radio/Video Show will highlight breaking news, commentary and techniques for surviving and thriving in the 21st Century. Brian’s Bottom Line will kick off the show with thought provoking attitude about the daily headlines. Guest interviews, political analysis, Lowlifes Making Headlines and Return To Vendor polls along with the Daily Gullibility Monitor and Worthy/Worthless news of the day will round out the broadcast. The overall goal is to create Political Survival Experts of its listeners and viewers.

The Brian Brawdy Show will be broadcast via satellite from the SRMR, or Self-Reliant Mobile Residence and will initially be web based and housed at LiveStream while the audio will be available via BrianBrawdy.com and iTunes. MauroMedia will be handling the technical aspects and helping me with the creative as well. I am currently negotiating with a national publisher and should have some details shortly on Survivalnomics.

I would love your input, show suggestions and critiques….Please feel free and totally encouraged to comment at

Hiker Surviving in Wilderness Outlasts Expectations

LOST doesn’t mean Lost for Good. For all of our frailty, all of our short comings, human beings can survive against tremendous odds. Though many believe that wilderness highlights human weakness, once again a survival story, this time of a missing Colorado woman reminds us just how resilient we can be.

I know it sounds impossible, even highly unlikely but we can survive without food, custom shelter and excess water in some pretty wild situations and for a decent amount of time.

I still believe survival is a mindset, a train of thought void of panic and feebleness. Today, we are conditioned to believe that survival is dependent on a backpack full of gear and a mind full of learned skills, to successfully survive. It’s more about temperament than technology, more mental than mechanical. What we need, thank goodness, we already possess. It’s in us.

You and I are a product of thousands of years of walking out into the wild, Eden or Africa, and making our way to the end of the day. Humans, if nothing else, are survivors.

Survivors First. Consumers, a distant second.

Launching my Summer with Lyme Disease

“It will never happen to me.” Ever thought or used these words aloud? Ever think you’re  immune, that crap befalls other people? It happens, but to someone else. I sure have. Never thought I would get skin cancer, but I did. Never thought I’d be swarmed by bees and develop an hypersensitivity to their stingers, but I did. Never, ever thought I’d catch a tree pollen allergy later in life, but I did. With the events of today, I’m wondering if I would not be better off as an “Indoor Adventure Expert” working for Ikea. Spending my time in the wild seems to be working against me.

Oh well.

The bulls-eye target was the final sign. The nurse took one look at red, swollen rings on my upper thigh, compared it to my almost flulike symptoms over the last few days and the diagnosis was in: Lyme Disease. Now, two weeks of antibiotics and a huge dose of humility.

I always use insect repellent when I “go” exploring, or adventure in some predetermined wilderness. From Alaska to the Everglades I’ve, without fail always protected myself from misquotes and ticks, always. This time I broke a huge rule, committed a cardinal sin of outdoor exploration by treating my own back yard as a “tick friendly place” or as a backcountry in which I could let me guard down. Now, I’m paying for it.

The CDC offers a great crash course in all things Lyme Disease while Adventure Medical Kits has some must read info on the tick threat. My purpose here is to remind folks about the black-headed deer tick and the need to protect yourself as the prime season for infection begins. Remember, ticks don’t know your backyard from the most backcountry of wildernesses.

Don’t kick off your Summer with tick bites.

Spent Saturday Night Testing Our Tornado Survival Skills

BREAKING NEWS: Illinois Tornado. It was a quiet Saturday evening of pizza and TV with my children when the screen went black, followed by an ear-piercing, high-pitched tone. The National Weather Service Emergency Alert System interrupted The Incredibles, announcing a severe thunderstorm/tornado warning for three nearby counties in Illinois. Instantly, they sat up with worry in their eyes as they asked, “Is the tornado coming here?”

I grabbed my SolarLink FR360 weather radio, gave it a crank and listened to the warning anew. Spotters confirmed a large twister contained within a violent band of thunderstorms south-east of house.

My son asked me, “Dad, what happens in a tornado? What should we do?” For the rest of the evening we “staged” a tornado drill. Obviously, tornado preparedness is no joke but role playing “as if” a violent storm was imminent quelled nerves and ingrained the proper skills for a future emergency.

We grabbed our Eton radio, our pillows and my Tactical 5.11 flash light, turned off all the lights and headed for a first floor inner bathroom. Each time our practice drills got a bit faster and smoother; by our 3rd and 4th run we were having fun and their initial fears were gone. My daughter suggested that we leave a deck of UNO cards in “the bathroom drawer incase we ever get stuck in here.”

Practicing (for adults) and playing preparedness with future survival experts is a great way to spend a Saturday night. Killing the lights, working as a team and planing for the unthinkable makes everyone calm and safer. You’re never too young for Mind-Ups.

Study: WHO Hype More Harmful than the H1N1 Itself

Over a year ago I renamed the Swine Flu  the “Whine Flu” and wondered if the World Health Organization was scaring the globe while inflating the fears of a flu pandemic. Wow! Perhaps I should have called it the $wine Flu.  Now comes a Washington Post report suggesting that some believe that the WHO exaggerated the global spread and the ferocity of the Swine Flu and may have done so in collusion with drug manufacturers of certain vaccines.

WHO Breeding Fears of Influenza for Financial Reasons? What next?

When will it end? Global warming, global pandemics, global BS, global spin?

If you can’t trust the WHO, who can you trust?
