Get over yourself! Just who do you think you are?
Of late, all we hear from the proponents of the healthcare reform measures in Washington is the need to “get this bill done” before Congress leaves for Passover/Easter. President Obama, Rahm Emanuel, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and others are pushing to finish this legislation prior to lawmakers returning home for the holidays. Fearful that fence-sitting House members will be influenced by a cranky constituency upon their return, Democrats are pushing hard to keep that influence to a bare minimum.
Congressional leaders don’t want House members hearing from their hometowns? ”Oh, those petulant people, the ignorant electorate. Damn those unenlightened voters back home.”
How dare we ask our elected officials to listen to us and then vote. Who are we to challenge their lipstick on a pig or perfume on a skunk? Where do we get off questioning back room/locked door deals? Just because they promised to go to Washington and make a change, who are we to question being short-changed once they arrive? Come on. Who ever promised you that after your politician gets your vote that your voice will get his/her ear? Where is it written that their agenda should be our agenda?
What naive dolts we are!
Heaven forbid our voice be heard on a bill that reflects 17% of our economy. It’s crazy talk I tell you; we don’t deserve a say! Forget that it’s OUR economy, NOT the governments; we’re way too backwards to understand.
What does it tell you when elected officials are fearful of the “opinionated” electorate?
Perhaps they should be. I hope they eventually will be.
