President Obama Quotes Lincoln, Pelosi Has Different “True”

Today, President Obama reminded Democrats of President Abraham Lincoln’s famous quote, “I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true.” So if President Obama wants lawmakers to be “true” when it comes to their health care reform vote, why not let them go on record for being so? Why will Speaker Pelosi not grant House Minority Leader John Boehner’s request for a roll call vote? Yes, I believe there should be a roll call vote. No, I don’t believe my party will let it happen. Such a shame.

If you believe something to be true, then stand, hold your head high, square your shoulders and damn well say so. If you are voting your conscience, vote with you voice!

Think of this.

What if there is a sleeper on the floor of the House? On the eve of the crucial vote, as the Democratic Whip counts and tallies, what if a Representative or two aren’t as “in the bag” as he thinks? Suppose, just for a moment, that as Speaker Pelosi calls for the vote tomorrow on the health care reform bill, that a single sleeper changes his/her mind.

What if just one or two Representatives shed the arm-twisting and decide that his/her “true” is not the true of the Speaker? Right then, on camera for all to see.

Can you imagine the circus then? Now that would be a real March Madness.
