The Politics of Winning by Whipping

The Illusion of Bipartisanship and Civility or as I like to call it, The ABC’s of politics, power and people.

I can’t drop it.

I’ve tried for a few days now, but it’s just too mentally sticky.

The term “bear false witness” continues to ricochet around in my mind.

To accuse one of “bearing false witness” is to not only label them a liar, but to sentence them as a sinner as well. Look,  you violate one of the 10 Commandments, is there a title you are aware of, other than sinner?

Are we able, anymore, to have a discussion without derision,  conversation without condemnation, are we able to voice our opinion without vilifying those that view it differently, can we analyze our debates without attacking our opponents?

I don’t know of a single person who roots for the bully on the playground, do you? Well, perhaps, other bullies; I gotta give you that.

Can we be victorious without viciousness?

Did Jesus scream, yell and pound his fist? Did the Buddha? Did Gandhi? Did Dr. King? All bastions of Power through Civility. For me, the true definition of “PC.”

Seems that many in politics, both the politicians and the people who put them in office, believe that those that scream the loudest and longest, all the while labeling their opposition as ignorant or sinner, have both Constitution and (now) Canon Law, on their side?

Canon without Cannons? Sorry. Couldn’t resist.

No bipartisanship, just BADGERING.

No civility, just COMBATIVENESS.

No talking, just TAUNTING.

Have we lost all ability for discourse without demonization?

I enjoyed the alliteration (creative) and the perspective. It certainly does not appear that anyone knows how to agree to disagree much less in a civil and respectful way. It does get old doesn't it? Sometimes there is no right or wrong to an issue, there is just "difference" but the world insists on making it a moral issue. Difference makes for discourse, it should not make for division. I, for one, am glad we do not all think alike.
